why carmel?
Just one week after we met at a wedding, we found ourselves on a road trip to Carmel-by-the-Sea for our first "real" date. Alistair was racing cars nearby, and between races, we spent our time exploring town together.
Carmel has held a special place in our hearts ever since. It feels only fitting to return to where it all began, this time to celebrate our own wedding with the people we love most!
A few of our favorites are listed below to help you plan your weekend.
carmel beach
Walk two blocks from La Playa to the end of Ocean Avenue to one of the most gorgeous beaches in California!

Just five blocks from La Playa is the heart of downtown Carmel. Explore countless boutiques, art galleries, wine tasting rooms and more.
17-mile drive
This stretch of 17 miles of road through Pebble Beach Resort and Pacific Grove will take you through some of the most breathtaking of California’s coastline.
Keep in mind there is a gate fee, but you can get it reimbursed if you visit one of Pebble Beach Resort's restaurants or shops!
point lobos state natural reserve
Just three miles from La Playa Hotel, explore one of California’s many state parks. Great hiking and wildlife viewing (especially the seals)!
If you want to make sure you get to explore, go early. The park reaches capacity quickly.
monterrey
Monterrey is about 5 miles north of Carmel. Don't miss the Monterrey Aquarium if you do visit - not just for kids!
If you choose to explore, keep in mind our wedding coincides with Jazz Fest and Monterrey is expected to be very busy throughout the weekend.

A cozy neighborhood restaurant featuring family-made comfort food. Our favorite place to get gnocchi and pizza between races or while exploring!
Reservations open 90 days out and fill fast so we recommend making one! The walk up list can fill as early as 5pm so don't gamble.

Serves breakfast, lunch & dinner using ingredients sourced from the peninsula. Owned by a local family. The BEST cinnamon roll - you can’t go wrong with brunch!
Does take walk ups, but the line can get long-ish!
ad astra
One of our favorite bakeries and coffee shops! Slightly more of a hike but every pastry hits and the bread is to die for. The atelier in Carmel Valley is slightly closer but the main bakery in Monterrey offers a broader selection.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND OUR WEDDING CORRESPONDS WITH JAZZ FEST 2027. WHILE THE BIGGEST IMPACT WILL BE ON MONTERREY, THE SURROUNDING AREA WILL BE BUSY SO WE RECOMMEND PLANNING AHEAD! WE EXPECT RIDE SHARE TO BE PARTICULARLY SWAMPED.

If you choose to travel by car, please be aware that while there is parking at the hotel it is typically on the street and can get busy! Ride share is generally available in the area but may be more congested due to Jazz Fest.

We hope you will still with us on-site! All our events will be held at La Playa to minimize logistics and maximize time together.
Book as soon as possible to receive the wedding rate. La Playa is a ~75 room hotel and can fill up fast, especially during peak season!

While we love your little ones, all our wedding weekend events will be adults-only.
Can I bring a plus one?
Please refer to named guests on your save-the-date and formal invitation! Other guests unfortunately cannot attend.
Is transportation provided?
If you stay at La Playa, you won’t need any!
There is street parking around La Playa and ride share is generally available in the area, although Jazz Fest may make grabbing a ride tricker than normal.
What should I wear?
Welcome Party - Garden Party Chic
Midi & maxi dresses / dark jeans and a jacket encouraged. No tie required.
Wedding - Formal
Floor length dresses / dark suits and ties.
Brunch - Casual
Come as you are!
Will we be outdoors?
Our welcome event, wedding ceremony and cocktail hour will all be outside on brick and paved surfaces. Our reception will be indoors.
Weather in Carmel in late September is generally pleasantly warm during the day (generally low 70s) with crisper evening temperatures. We will do our best to make sure you all our comfortable, but please plan outwear and shoes accordingly!
Can I take pictures during the ceremony?
We ask that you please turn off your phones and cameras during the ceremony. Don’t worry, we will share our photos with everyone after the big day. Snap away the rest of the weekend and don’t forget to share with us!
Is there a party …. AFTER the party?
YES!
We rented out a bar in downtown Carmel for anyone who wants to keep the parting going on Saturday! Transportation will be provided for this event only.
